It is the shallow estuary of the Inchydoney river, which is the only access to the Ring fishing harbour. The beacon posts indicate the only path manageable for the fishing boats, i.e. the deepest place just close to the rocks. Many boats miscalculate and get stranded here. They have to wait for the highest tide in order to get loose.
