Photo is named after the 1989 movie "Glory," about a regiment of African American soldiers in the American Civil War. At that time black soldiers' tombstones were marked USCT: United States Colored Troops. Corporal Gardner's first name is lost; veterans department records list him as Unknown Gardner.
