I'd like an honest opinion of this photo. If I could reshoot it, I'd move to the left and get a different angle so the mike didn't block his mouth and he was looking toward the camera. But since I can't do that, what do you think of it as is? The band was great, and I love the sunset light, especially on people with his coloring, so I have saved the moment I enjoyed. But it could've been so much better...!
i might have just done a close up of his hands in that magnificent light or as you said moved a little to the left and eliminated the man in the background! I think it is a great shot as it is though.
It works as it is for a candid. But your own critique is spot on. The microphone does take away from him, but in those circumstances, you could not do anything about. The "golden hour" lighting is great. It makes anybody look good, so that worked in your favor. Nice shot.
