Glad to see that they are honoring the suffering of the slaves. Plantations could be horrendous places.

It is an interesting piece- I'm not sure I understand the story it's depicting but I imagine there is an explanation somewhere near it- at least I hope there is! Good shot.

@sangwann @olivetreeann I should have been clearer in my explanation. The Middle Passage was part of the triangular trade route in the 18th and 19th centuries. Europe shipped goods to Africa, slaves were shipped to the Americas, and raw materials were sent to Europe. Some captured Africans jumped overboard and this sculpture depicts that.

@margonaut Louisiana has lots of plantations open for visitors and the tours vary. Some are about the building and furniture, some about the family who built the house, etc. This tour is about slavery. Very thought-provoking.
