Mississippi River Levee

Fascinating images with some terrific silhouettes, But I think I’m going to need you to explain this to me

Great silhouette and industrial shot.

@grammyn Looks like a mechanical system that allows them to hold back or release the water as the river rises. Just a guess!

@grammyn I don't know what it's called! It is located across the street from a chemical or aluminum plant (I forget which) and I think it is used to move product from the plant to ships on the river. My husband would know, as he worked at chemical plants for 40 years, but I forgot to ask him today. (He is in a long-term care facility with Parkinson's disease and dementia, but the thing he talks about most is the plant. And the grandchildren!)

@eudora thanks Diane. I was wondering if it had something to do with the levee or something else. My knowledge of the levee system is woefully minimal. Perhaps you can think to ask him next time you visit. He would probably enjoy talking about it.

@olivetreeann thanks Ann. I thought it might be something like that but I wasn’t sure. Diane says she thinks it was for something else.

@grammyn @grammyn Oh I can see that- it reminds me of a conveyor system at a salt plant we pass by on the way to son #1's home in Batavia NY.
