We had a devastating forest fire in the National Forest above the house. This is in an area where I walk the dogs and go often for photography inspiration and peaceful rest.
It required the efforts of over 200 fire fighters as well as help from the British Naval Base and Israel to finally get it under control. All told, over 6 sq kilometers were burned. That may not seem much when compared to fires in other countries, but when one considers that the entire country of Cyprus is only 9,251 sq. km., (smaller than Connecticut!) that 6 sq. km of forest is vast.
Wow Evalie, its sad to see the forest destroyed by fire and glad that everyone is safe (right?). Keep your eyes open for new growth, that will be exciting.
@novab Thanks, yes, in this fire, everyone was safe. Unfortunately, a day later, a short distance away, we had a much bigger fire in which two firefighters were killed. It breaks my heart for their families and for the wee lad who was playing with a lighter that started the fire.
I am viewing your photos in the wrong order. So sorry about the fire and its destruction. Thank goodness for all the firefighters and the risks they take. So sorry to hear that life was lost.
