After lunch at Olmstead Outlook today, I took a few photos in the gardens with my new macro lens. I was focusing on the bumblebee at the right when I noticed the grasshopper in the frame. It isn't often that you see two insects sharing a space so close together. The bumblebee has the biggest orange pollen saddlebags, and if you look closely, the grasshopper is missing part of his right antenna and the bottom of his right leg. I guess he narrowly escaped being somebody else's lunch!
Those pollen saddlebags are huge! Enlarging this shot really makes them stand out. Your details on that grasshopper are great - know you're having a ball playing with that new lens. I'm sure thinking hard about an upcoming birthday or Christmas - hmm. It is unusual to see the two species coexisting so nicely.
