Throwback Tuesday. Taken July 2013 with my iPhone. A recent shot of Danny's @soboy5 reminded me that I had this shot. I have a couple of pics of this signage over the years.
I used to live next door to this 'happening' place while in college in the '90s. I don't know if it's as hip anymore (and these days I like to avoid anything hip or trendy - two things I strive not to be) but rumor had it...they only sat attractive patrons in the outdoor seating area to make it look appealing to a passerby. The wait staff all looked like aspiring models or actors...because they probably were.
Service was meh. Food was ok. Drinks were better. Their brunch after a night out drinking in NYC was pretty fucking divine. And although it was named Coffee Shop, people didn't go there for coffee.
Today it promises to be in the 50s in Manhattan. I love that it's getting darker late. I am feeling less down these days, thankfully. I'm a sun person. A beach and ocean person. A spring/summer person. My husband, on the other hand, likes the mountains and lakes and snow. Go figure.
@michaelelliott that's what I was going for :). The decor inside was also very '70s, if I recall. Haven't eaten there 15 years or so, so I don't know if it still is.
@michaelelliott definitely! Was watching a documentary in NYC about the 70s and 80s. Although born in the 70s, I remember the New York City if the '80s...how gritty is was, dirty and kinda scary. I remember visiting relatives in the Bronx, where my parents used to live before they moved out to the 'burbs to raise a family. The changes NYC has gone through never cease to interest me over the years...
Great pic! Brings me back to drunken late night french fry feasts and then stumbling home (right next door) and lazy brunches just watching all the beautiful people of NYC walk by. And how about that weird dance party that the bottom floor turned into at night??
It's definitely not what it used to be, but Coffee Shop will always be an icon to me.
@mara19500 thanks for looking, Mara! I was lucky to catch the woman in red walking by. I don't like selective coloring all that much in my own pics but I thought it worked here.
It's definitely not what it used to be, but Coffee Shop will always be an icon to me.
Coffee Shop will always be an icon to me too. Haha let's go back once for nostalgia. Gonna post another NYC shot today too.
