This evening, a woman asked me in Spanish, while waiting on the subway platform, if I spoke Spanish. She looked lost.
Okay...I hate to admit that I initially said, "No hablo espanol" even though I can. But then immediately after, I felt guilty and asked, "¿Á donde va?"
She replied and I told her (in Spanish) to get back on the train and take it to the next stop.
She was not happy with the answer. Looked at me almost as if it was my fault that she got off a stop too early.
I kinda wanted to say to her, "Look, lady, I don't make up the rules here."
But then again...I did almost pretend not to speak Spanish.....
