Yet another from the Zig Zag path in Folkestone - this place was such a surprise to me as I was born about 7 miles away and had never been down this particular walkway and only found it by accident.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions on yesterday's picture. I know now how to do an HDR shot on my camera (this took ages to work out as it only operates in jpeg mode) and how to bracket!
Today's picture however was a blend of a jpeg and a RAW file with a lot of faffing and a Nik filter added at the end.
Another thought - Canon provide free digital processing software with all their cameras, which behaves rather like Lightroom as far as I can see, do Nikon not do the same? 🤔
@peadar I did investigate darktable this morning but guess I'm old enough to fight technology when faced with new varieties! Nikon did supply a CD (Capture NX or similar?) but I don't believe I kept it thinking that Elements was superior. I should know by now ... hope you're soaking up loads of sun:)
This looks a fascinating area. I too was born in Folkestone but have not been there for many years. When i get back to the UK it's going to be on my "to do" list!
Lovely place and nice shot! I love when I round a bend to a surprise. Think of the people who don’t have a photographic eye that would walk right by. And you are way ahead of me with bracketing etc. Lots to learn.
Looks wonderful, like you I didn't know somewhere existed - a huge and marvellous SSSI only 6 miles from where I grew up...hope to visit soon with a friend & cameras & leaving Tilly with the babysitters.
Super find, lovely image. The girl is exceeding her own expectations! LOL

I had to look it up in google, was wondering, if I could come and see it next time, when I in England. It is a bit far away, my son lives near Plymouth. Great place to explore.
@robz Hi Rob, glad you liked it. I know I used the same shot taken in RAW and jpeg and I think I must have used the jpeg for the exterior and then lightened the exposure of the inside of the cave in RAW. I remember using the Refine Edge tool (the wrong way round at first!) to isolate the cave exterior, copied the interior with the elliptical marquee tool and then floated the two shots together and then removing the jpeg exterior extra - does that make sense? I also had to Dodge and Burn quite a bit to remove the shape of the elliptical marquee tool and to really disguise it added a Nik filter. Good old PSE!
@fbailey It all sounds a bit different to my old program ( still using it!) but I can see what you did and I'm sure I could follow the same ideas. You are a whiz at this! Thanks for your time and help. When I get a suitable image I'll have a go and tag you to see what you think. Many thanks again. Cheers Rob
@angelikavr So pleased it piqued your interest! Lots to do and see in Folkestone. Various artworks from past and present Triennials are dotted all over the place and in the summer the town seems to have a real buzz about it. Hope you manage a visit some day:)
Great image and details - I learned to bracket manually on using jpeg on a an old camera - so shooting three bracketed shots. And then processing them into an HDR image manually. It really means using a tripod to do that to keep the camera steady. The Luminance program is supposed to load a number pictures to create an HDR in various versions, but I haven't had a lot of success with it using it that way recently. Did when I first started. Tone mapping with Luminance works well.
@shannejw Thanks for such a detailed and helpful reply. These caves are like a magnet right now as I can't seem to crack the exposure. Will persevere though but it's going to be v boring for everyone else. Off to Google Luminance now!
https://sourceforge.net/projects/qtpfsgui/ - it's a freeware HDR program - when I had it loaded I found one of the Reinhard options produced a soft HDR effect and the Mantiuck a dramatic one
