Fells and Valleys

We drove up to Ullswater via a road literally called 'the struggle'... alas when we saw the sign and warnings we were already on it and it was too narrow to go back, with sharp bends, occasional passing places and 20% rises in places. Gulp. You can imagine how pleased we were to get to the top and see this ahead of us...! I was also bowled away by how many hand-made dry stone walls bordered roads, split mountains, separated fields etc. How many hours of labour was that?! For the poor chaps who did the bit we drove along it must truly have been a struggle...
The Lake District is in the north west of England, in Cumbria. I had been told that it's like the highlands of Scotland in miniature and I now agree. It doesn't have the scale of the highlands, nor the midges (!), but it is beautiful and we were treated to glorious weather so enjoyed it at its best.
# This view reminded me very much of this one https://365project.org/filsie65/365/2011-08-20 - having compared them I really am reminded of the scale of things in Scotland!
Thanks for calling by to share in my little adventures! x

This has to be worth the tricky drive up and down. Beautiful.

Fabulous view!! I too have mistakenly driven up one of those very very narrow roads - praying no one is going to come the other way!!
