Wouldn't that castle be a great and miraculous destination? (yes, I know it's the LDS temple, just being "poetic") At this point in our journey, though, our destination was home. The road, miraculously, had been plowed, and the snow, miraculously, had stopped. This was quite different from our trip going the other direction, which itself was miraculous since we didn't slide into any other cars or off the road -- unlike MANY stranded vehicles we passed.. Also, when the windshield wiper flew off, we managed to pull over into a convenient snow bank and Joe, miraculously, re-attached it. Then we miraculous managed to get out of the snow bank.
Our original destination had been an art show in DC, but when we got about two miles from it, we encountered an icy hill on which complete chaos reigned. After about an hour, we managed to turn around (also miraculous) and decided at that point to head home rather than chance an alternate route.
The kicker in this adventure is that, after we got home, we received an email with a message that our tickets had been cancelled due to inclement weather and that we were being given a voucher. So we'll go back in March. It would have been nice to know about the cancellation a bit earlier. But we made it home and are still celebrating all the bad things that COULD have happened to us and didn't happen to us.
This looks like a fairy tale with the trees all covered in lace and the golden palace floating in the air.
Then we notice the cars and trucks and dirty snow ....
Happy New Year from our house to yours, Francoise! May your 2022 be happy, healthy and prosperous!
The LDS temple looks very magical and golden. Glad you didn't get caught in the 11 hour gridlock on I-95. But then you probably didn't have to take that road.
@randystreat 11 hour!! Apparently there were people trapped for more than 24 hours! No, we were on the other side of town and didn't hear about that mess until later. Then we felt even luckier.
