Water Iris at Dusk by francoise

Water Iris at Dusk

Another rainy day. The water irises growing in the pond seem to love this weather. Of all the flowers in the yard, these seem to last the shortest time. There one day, gone the next. That is probably not exactly true, but it is true that they – and all other perennials – do not stick around all summer. For that reason, I will go tomorrow and purchase some annuals to put in planters and pots. My favorites are petunias, which my mother pronounced to be a “generous” flower. They just bloom and bloom all summer long. Last year we went to the auction around this time of year and I came home with flats of marigolds and pink geraniums. They made a nice change from petunias, but I’m happy to be going back to my favorites, even if all I can find turns out to be some genetic novelty like “wave petunias.”
Pretty composition.
