Yay! Lettuce! by francoise

Yay! Lettuce!

This miniature lettuce may in time grow big enough to make salad. The scale is perhaps difficult to see, so I should tell you to think in the half inch range. This miniature lettuce may, however, be stunted forever by my inability to thin! I can’t bear to pluck one and leave another, so the plants end up too close together to do as well as they might. Last year I figured out that putting the seeds farther apart to begin with can compensate a bit for this psychological deficit on my part. But lettuce seeds are so small that it’s hard to space them. It sounds like I might be trying to make excuses! I’m probably just overthinking this and should return to my joy that the seeds sprouted. That’s enough emotion for today.
mesclun is grown like that on purpose, designed to just cut individual leaves as they get large enough and they keep on growing.

LOL! Such a fun narrative but I think I can I get a fire with your inability to thin. I sometimes feel the same way. A beautiful close-up detail shot of it though
