This is a confirmation class of German Lutherans in 1913. It was taken in the charming little church (built in 1888) of which I am the caretaker. I was approached by the church president to do an archival project for them; without a moment's hesitation, I said yes. I dug up some photos at the local Historical Society and photographed them as is, in B&W, and in sepia. It was VERY time consuming, but quite fun, although the editing and tweeking required was arduous. But, I was going to get paid for my efforts (and skill.) Oh no!! A newly elected church president deemed the project an extravagance they could not currently afford, and discontinued the project - AFTER I had done most of the work! I sent her this photo as a "teaser" and she was so taken with it, I was given the go-ahead to continue. Ha! Not so fast, I thought. I insisted on receiving 3/4 of the agreed upon fee before they got ANY photographs. Everything worked out to the satisfaction of all, they were well pleased, and I learned a valuable lesson.
