Invaders Eye Veiw: Biertan, RO

Anne and I spent the night in Biertan, Romania after biking there the day before. We biked a bit more this day to another village, but mostly just stayed in Beirtan and checked out the sweet fortified church there a UNESCO site since 1993. It's construction was started in 1468, and it was fortified to protect the town against Turkish (Ottoman empire) invaders.

I took a hike up a hill overlooking town to get a nice birds eye view of the church. I had this bright idea to lay down and get this grass in the foreground, thus creating the perspective that we are just peaking over the hill to see into town. Unfortunatly under that carpet of nice green grass that I layed on the field had been recently burnt to enrich the grasses, thus my tan pants were COVERED in soot when I got up. Since we were biking light I only had these pants and had to spend the next 5 hours or so looking like a bum until we reunited with the rest of our luggage and I could change. Although I must admit I would do it all over again to get this shot. :)
right out of a story book! Very nice Steve
