table and chair round the back by helenhall

table and chair round the back

There is a church and museum in Bedford dedicated to John Bunyan. It is the one that has the stained glass window illustrating John Bunyan's Pilgrims Progress, of which a postcard was sent to Terry Waite when he was kidnapped and he received it. (Some may remember that far back).

Anyway, they are having extensive renovations to the roof and stonework at the moment. I walk past daily and today, round the back, spotted a little rest place being used by the workers. Not that there was anyone resting - but the dust covered seat gave it away.

Thank you for all your views, comments and favourites. I love to receive your feedback - feel free to make suggestions, I have much to learn.

You can see the history in the old brickwork. Builders always seem to find a way to make themselves comfortable. Nicely captured Helen.

I like the brick wall and door, it seems abstract to me because of the modern door all alone.

Great capture, Helen! I like the old/new contrast in the image! You certainly find some very interesting scenes to shoot on your daily walks. :-)

Well spotted. I remember Terry Waite vividly. We lived in Cyprus with the military when hostages Brian Keenan and John McCarthy were taken hostage in Lebanon in 1986 and also met Terry Waite in 1985 in Cyprus when he was negotiating the release of some hostages prior to his own capture in 1987.

I like the color blocking and strong textures in this composition.

A contemporary picture full of mystery. Is it a smokers chair?

I like the simplicity of this Helen, the textures and the contrast between warm and cool colours. I love old bricks, and these are great. Would it have been possible to take this directly from in front rather than from the side? I'm thinking that might have made it easier to get the sides of the door straight rather than slanted. But I do like the composition with the areas of grey descending from right to left.

@flowerfairyann - Ann, you are right about the builders - although in my experience it is usually a van parked outside the property.

@gaylewood thank you Gayle. I am concerned that I am going to run out of views sooner or later!

@onewing that is interesting Babs. He came to Bedford too, because of the postcard he had received I captivity. But I didn't get to meet him. That is awesome.

@taffy thanks- I think the strong shapes and colour is something that could have been even more striking with the right composition here. I was limited to what I could get at the time.

@paulmann I did a spot of detective work today (ie walked past the same spot). The chair is now moved as are the tables. There is evidence of both coffee drinking and cigarette smoking. still no sign of the occupant though. thanks for your comment.

@tristansmum thanks for your comment and suggestion. I think you are right, although if I remember rightly, there was a parked car preventing me from taking the POV that I really wanted.
