Firstly my thanks to followers for your enthusiastic acceptance of my Autumn like offering on the first day of our British Summer. Today, I am pleased to report, started out as a bright sunny day which enabled a few more impressionist reflective shots along the river on my walk to work.
I chose to show the demoiselle damselfly though, as I have many a time chased these around hoping to get close enough for a capture before my target decides to move on. This one was hanging out by the swan which I am keeping an eye on. The foliage around the swan's sitting spot (I can hardly call it a nest as there remains little evidence of such) is now getting so thick that I fear there will be no further photographic opportunities as she sits and waits.
Passers by tell me how worried they are that she has sat so long without the eggs hatching, but by my reckoning, she has another week or so to go before anyone needs worry. And what is six weeks in a life time of a swan compared to the possible two years that this fellow spent at the nymph stage before launching out into the big wide world? He deserves his day to be featured, since his life could well be over by the time the young cygnets are finding their feet and growing their wings.
Not perfect focus, and not the most interesting of backgrounds, but I did, at least finally get him in the picture.
Wonderful details on the wings and amazing colors! I have tried and tried to get a similar shot with absolutely no luck...well done, Helen! They certainly are quite tricky to capture. Thank you for the update on your swan! :-)
The shot may well not be in focus but there is no denying the wonderful colours and detail you have captured. I think the background is a perfect backdrop to showcase the damselfly.
Hope all goes well with the swan.
