Today we took father-in-law out for the afternoon and visited Ely Cathedral. The sun came out and it should have been a perfect day for outdoor photography. I saw the picture I wanted as we approached the town of Ely, just a couple of miles away, where the ship of the Fens stood out beyond the golden fields, but there was nowhere to stop the car!
I invited son, husband and father-in-law to take a seat as I thought I had found the perfect place for a snap of the trio, but was wrong on several accounts. They weren't for resting on the stone seat as it would seem that too many pigeons had been there before them.
So I am sticking with the empty shot of the cathedral porch in which I enjoy the tones and the shadow. Apparently, Ely Cathedral is the only UK building to be listed as one of the “Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages” Built in 1081 and a fine example of Romanesque and Norman architecture. It didn't fail to impress, and the cappuccino at the café by the river was pretty good too.
(I was unwell this morning and am playing catch up with some tasks as a consequence. I'll be back to view your photos from today - hopefully tomorrow)
I like the patterns made by the different vertical elements in this shot - together with the warm colours in the stone and the chequered tiles, it makes a very harmonious composition.
