Back to industrial after yesterday's burst of colour. Stopped off here on the way back from a meeting today to see if I could find anything remotely Konttinen like. Stewwartby brickworks was home to the world’s biggest kiln and produced 18 million bricks at the height of production. The model village of Stewartby was built entirely for its workers, but these workers - many immigrants from Italy and Poland - have had to find employment elsewhere as the brickworks were closed in 2008 after attempts to reduce the amount of pollutants in the brick manufacture failed. 4 of the original 24 chimneys remain and are listed by English Heritage.
I wandered around but failed to find more than a peep through the overgrowth in order to capture a good view of one of the chimneys. No groups of children were obligingly playing in front of the brick works today!
Why not go out this weekend and seek out some of your local industrial heritage? Or if that's not your thing, try some young ballerinas bouncing on a bed. Or get to natures roots - all are options with the Artist challenge.
Great view point of this old chimney.
As a child growing up in Bedfordshire, I remember these smoking chimney's....... my maiden name was Stewart & I had a strange idea that this place had something to do with our family haha !!!
