Hebron Spice by helenhall

Hebron Spice

The old town in Hebron is a place most vile.
Right now, I can not begin to put into words how I feel about today's visit. One can not go there and remain unaffected by the inhumanity of humanity.

But people have to shop, and if you make it to the souk, the spices are certainly good.

This one needs viewing on black

I hope - friends - that you will understand that it is difficult for me to find time to view your photos here in the West Bank with so much on the agenda. But I shall be back home at the weekend and look forward to a good long catch up session!
I can imagine your feelings Helen.

I have been to Israel three times and have found it to be like every other country when it comes the good in people and the not good at all. Thankfully my experiences there involved more good than bad. Good shot!

You've captured the image of the spices/food well. It must be hard to see what you are seeing.

@olivetreeann I have met only people with good in them. I have seen a system of oppression and injustice. I too have had good experiences but find Hebron particularly hard to stomach. We all need more compassion for each other.

Sounds like a very interesting time you are having. Great photo.

I miss the souk! And I love this image! It speaks to me of "a home". Being an expat has created in me, "home," in countries other than my birth country.

Great image, Helen. Yes, definitely best on black. I can't even begin to imagine what you are experiencing there.

@onewing I guess you know a lot about the situation from your comments. It is hard to process all that I have seen and experienced.
@taffy Yes indeed, Very hard, but seeing and feeling moved is not enough. Someone has to do something to help these people!
@janemartin Indded Jane. Most interesting and fulfilling. Thanks.
@evalieutionspics You have lived in the west bank? The souks are wonderful, but no longer as they should be.
@gaylewood thanks Gayle.

@helenhall I do know a lot about the situation. We lived in Cyprus for three years in the 1980s when David was in the RAF and he was involved in a lot of what was going on there at the time. We visited Israel a couple of times during our tour in Cyprus and I loved Bethlehem, it was sad then and I hate to think of what it must be like now.

@helenhall Not in the west bank. We lived in Saudi for 13 years. There were some wonderful souks there and in Bahrain. Living in the Middle East gives one a whole new appreciation for the issues.
