I think I will spend a good deal of this month wondering just what classifies as abstract. Already I have hit some questions, but I know I am going to have lots of fun. Perhaps I shall use it as an excuse to step out of the box and let the imagination (and the editing tools) go mad. Lets see how many followers I loose !
I'm starting with one which I still think is fairly recognisable for what it is. The geese were all lined up along the weir this morning and I was struck by the pattern of feathers against the flow of the water. Actually, the non abstracted version of this turned out well enough to put the question of why to abstract it. I think I may post the version with the geese heads, another time.
This is wonderful Helen.. the textures are what first caught my eye, then the thinking mechanism set, in as i worked out the feather shapes..
like you, i'm unsure of what constitutes 'abstract'.. sure, i've looked on the web - umpteen times - but still non the wiser.. i'm going to just 'wing it' and see.. :-)
i too have many questions in the abstract department. but i think that's part of the fun of it. this is a very good start - certainly has colour, pattern, shape and texture, which i think abstracts often offer. and i quite like to be able to recognise the subject, but have it captured in a way that makes me see it differently, as you achieve here
I really like what you have done here and would most definitely call it an abstract. Don't worry too much as to what defines one, just have fun playing with them. You are off to an excellent start!
I like the wispy feel of this picture and how you have edited it. I confess to not being a huge fan of abstract and for me it seems a little strange not to see any heads in this shot, but as others have said it is about shape, form, pattern, line so this quite perfect for that and with added the added bonus of texture too.
