Abstract August 13

I keep hearing about long exposures for smooth water, and have never stopped to try. So this attempt, at the longest possible my camera would allow and still get a picture in the bright afternoon light, seemed suitable for the abstract of the day.

Again, there was plenty else going on down at the park today as the band was playing in the band stand. When I get a chance, I will post one from there on my extras.
wonderful ,...

I like the abstract result. I find that too long ends up obscuring the looks of water at all, so it's always a guess how long an exposure to use. I also have ND filters which allow me to leave it open longer, even when on a more sunny day. Your image has a very silky feel to it.

Great abstract image. I have a DMC lx100 Panasonic, which I was able to get an ND filter for. They are great for long exposures.

Great softness abstract.

the softness of the water is very good.. i particularly like the edge where there the flow is not so consistent, there's more definition here.. well done..

@pdulis thank you Peter. It is so encouraging to have your remarks popping up here and there.
@taffy thank you Taffy. I shall have to look into ND filters - although I do agree with you that an overly long exposure seems to give an unwelcome artificiality to water sometimes. I guess it depends on the style of the shot.
@moonmtn That is useful to know Kahsia. May be I should look out for something similar some time.
@haskar thank you
@jorlam just an experiment - but I was surprised at how well it worked.
@suzanne234 thanks Suzanne

Wowy pic. Water! I thought it could easily be you when you're in your eighties ;-)

Great effect. To me the water here look fibrous which I like.
