The first in a series from Stowe Landscape Gardens, visited on a fine Autumn day this last Sunday. (Or, the second, if you count the detail posted yesterday as an abstract).
This is Venus, housed in the Rotundo, and a recent gilt replacement of the original. Venus - the Goddess of Love and Beauty, but I read too that she is also thought to be a bringer of good fortune.

It took a bit of Italianness in guessing: we usually call luck with the name of a clearly identified area of the human body, not on the front side, where - it seems - Venus excelled...
