Our day in New York was a combination of torture and being in heaven. I wanted to soak up all the architecture and marvel at my leisure. At this point in the day, F in L had had enough and was about to go missing. Tensions were high. But the opportunities around me were irresistible and so I just kept on snapping.
This is one of my favourites from this evenings processing.
Wonderful contrast of old and new! The last time I was in New York City I had a similar experience of torture and being in heaven ... I was only there for one day and I wanted to see EVERYTHING. I went on one of those double decker bus sightseeing tours and was able to see a lot of the major attractions but not anywhere near everything that I truly wanted to experience. I think it would probably take about a week to see everything at a leisurely pace which would allow for plenty of time to stop for photos along the way ... maybe two weeks. :-)
@olivetreeann@moonmtn@onewing@haskar@kjarn Thank you so much for the comments. As I was stopped and looking back in a busy street to take this shot (well, and a few of the others that sit amidst the 100s awaiting the cull) a man stopped me and said "they don't make them like that any more". Well no, but I'm always pleased to see new styles emerging that pay compliment to the old rather than mimic. I love to see them together. @gaylewood we didn't take the bus, although that plan worked very well for us in Boston. I'm glad you understand my contrasting emotions and hopefully a little of my selfishness in refusing to let go of the prospect of fitting as much as we three could manage into the day.
i find that new york, and washington, provide these lovely photo opps of old and new juxtaposed. i don't imagine the light here was easy, as it looks like a bright day, but you have made it work well. i like the way the modern blocks are taking on the sky colour
I love these contrasts between old and new architecture...fav. AND I know EXACTLY what you mean about having time. I'm afraid I left my (distant) relations and too the bus tour too, like Gayle. Only had eight hours but got to Staten Island, Statue of Liberty, Chrysler building, Ground Zero (as then) etc. And took an image like yours. Made my way back to them on my own on the train (Princeton) ! :) C'est la vie!
Beautiful contrast. And wherever you go, go on your own if you want to take pictures seriously . It is annoying to have to wait for the photographer, for the photographer it is annoying to think that the other person annoys himself.
Like this! What fascinates me is that then when equipment was more primitive, the buildings were so decorative. Now with all the materials and technology, we build blank walls!
@pistache we had bright days all the way, which caused me some problems at times but Im not complaining about the weather. thank you for the compliment. @suzanne234 thank you - I love it too when old and new sit happily side by side. @ivan I wish I could have done as you, but it was not possible. Still, I managed to squeeze a fair dose of NY in the day and took a lot of shots. @wenser I quite agree, but despite my best efforts to take a few days at least without fatherinlaw to look after, it was never going to happen. I am certainly happiest on my own with the camera. Thank you for your comment.
@redandwhite an interesting view of modern architecture. I like the best of both. The walls may be blank but if they reflect the old buildings, then they are doing a good job. Thanks for your comment here. @fbailey thank you for your visit and comment. I would love to return and see more of NY.
