House Beautiful

Houghton House is said to be the house upon which John Bunyan based his depiction of 'House Beautiful' in A Pilgrim's Progress.

Only a few miles from home, but astonishingly, our first visit to this quite remarkable ruin.
Love the person walking through the doorway. Isn't it always the way the places of interest that are the closest to where we live are the last places to visit.

So nicely framed by the trees, the walker was very fortunate in this shot

Lovely b&w shot (just realized you may be doing flash of red but still!). It's funny how the things closest to us in distance are sometimes brushed aside... it's good when we finally make time to see them!

@onewing @suzanne234 @kerosene there were just a couple of people wondering around other than ourselves, and they managed to pop up in the doorways most appropriately! I drove past this place twice a day when I worked in Ampthill, but was always in a hurry to get to work, or pick the boys up from school. Pleased , at last to have visited. Thank you for your kind comments.

Fascinating place...

is it just me or your black and whites have just a tad hint of colours? i noticed it on the heron's beak, the comforter, and this here, the ground/grass - just a tiny bit of colour that is almost indiscernible.

@summerfield you are right. As I desaturate the image, I often choose to leave a tiny amount of colour. Mostly, it is just the way I think it looks best. But maybe it is distracting?

@helenhall - not for me, it's not. but for some reason or other, my eyes were quick to notice them, but that is because i tend to study what I'm looking at (at least today i do).

Nice shot- it looks very regal- even in what appears to be disrepair. Good shot including the person.
