Discarded roses

I haven't taken any photographs today, despite the bright spring weather.

So here is one from February's store, that crosses the barrier between leading lines and contrast in the FlashofRed challenge. It is a good demonstration of the fact that red and green, despite being opposite colours on the colour wheel, translate very similiarly in black and white. These rose petals are red except for the yellow tips. The shiny black surface translates to silvery grey which gives enough of a contrast for the aging floral display.
I like the inclusion of the dropped petals

Good for lines and composition but I still feel roses must have colour!

I am with Maggie @maggiemae and think flowers look better in colour, but because these are on their last legs so to speak black and white seems appropriate somehow. Nice composition.

I think they look better in b&w than they would in colour

yes i think the b&w brings out the textures so well. interesting to read your observations re tones - i can never seem to get a grip on this

The black and white effect gives a sense of loneliness and separation.

My kind of shot! I struggle to get this effect... as if thrown carelessly on the floor and shot where and how they land.. even if I have actually thrown them carelessly on the floor and shot them where and how they landed! Fav
