Another from the weekend, although this little chap is still sitting in the garden, being fed from time to time and taking the occasional wander.
He stumbled out of his nest sometime on Saturday morning - as when we came back from our walk, there he was sitting in the middle of the lawn.
We watched as parents seemed to attempt to teach by example and kept flying up to the garden wall and then back again, willing their youngster to follow, but he wasn't ready.
By lunchtime, we were witnessing the emerging of a baby blue tit from our nest box and then on Sunday a second fledgling blackbird appeared in the garden.
It has been a first for me to witness the whole process in such close quarters this year, and one of the real benefits of having been at home full time.
As of tonight, one of the blackbird fledglings is still residing on the ground in our garden. The blue tit on the other hand, took about three minutes to recover from the shock of leaving the box and after one short flight from outhouse roof to next doors garage roof, it was off and never to be seen again.
Oh I do hope this one survives. Must be the daredevil of the brood. We had a swallow chick come out of a nest a few years ago and the parents continued to feed it until it could fly. Fingers crossed for your blackbird.
It has been amazing to watch nature over recent weeks - one of the benefits of time at home. Blue tits are so cheeky looking so I can imagine your excitement seeing them emerging.
Super capture of that open beak and wonderful light.
He is gorgeous! I get envious at these bird pictures on here! I've never come across a nest in my life, or a baby on the ground . There's some stunning pictures on here of baby birds, and this is one of them. What a beautiful picture.
Isn't that just like a child? Desperately believing they are independent and then recognizing they still need help! Sweet shot- I hope this little fellow turns out to be one of his parents' success stories. Great shot!
