We had numerous visits to Tatton Park as children. We could get into the park for free, unlike other visits, due to an unusual perk of my father's employment. The house and gardens were not included and so they remained out of scope. Instead, we would take a picnic and drive through the deer park and round the side of the lake to park exactly where this photograph is taken from. Under the shade of the trees we would play tag, hide and seek, cricket, and whatever other ball games we could invent, before settling down to the familiar shipman's paste sandwiches, crisps, a club biscuit or piece of cake and coffee from the flasks.
yesterday, we diverted to the car park here just for old time sake, before rushing to the garden to meet our 4pm booking time.
