Waka Te Rerenga Kotare

This is a traditional Maori boat called a "waka". This one is ceremonial used for special occassions and lives in the fairly new "Wharewaka" (boathouse) on the waterfront. My friend just wrote this on facebook - "I worked on this very eye the night before we launched it, it took us about 6 hours to put all of these feathers on the waka. This waka is called Te Rerenga Kotare - the flight of the kingfisher."

Love the focus on the feather Helen, looks like an amazing boat. Love the b&w treatment.
