Christmas lighthouse by homeschoolmom

Christmas lighthouse

The Nubble Lighthouse at Cape Neddick in York, Maine, is all light up for Christmas. Sitting on an island just off the coast, you can see the lights reflecting in the water below.

One Night Stand 6 challenge for Saturday is long exposure -- this is as long an exposure my camera has. If I had a longer exposure, I could have gotten an excellent pic of the stars. (I took this Saturday night).

Daytime view from my post Nov. 28. http://365project.org/homeschoolmom/challenges/2013-11-28
That looks cool

@digitalrn @juliedduncan @debihas27 @tracie8266 Thanks! I wish I had a camera that would have let me take a long exposure. The stars above the water were amazing!

nice
December 8th, 2013
would love to see that .

Oh this looks amazing just hovering there on the darkness, giving a new meaning to lighthouse
December 8th, 2013
Oh, I've got to get down and get a picture. Cool. Aren't they using LED's this year or something like that.
December 8th, 2013
That's very cool. Great capture.

@twr @susale @bristolrose Thanks!
@sarasdadandmom You should take your wife on a trip to Maine, but do it in the summer. It's too cold in the winter! LOL! Gorgeous in the summer. Lighthouses everywhere.
@joansmor They just looked like regular lights to me, but they were still very cool.

This is a really cool shot!! Ok since it's dark out so much lately, I'm going to give you the same challenge I gave my last person (I made sure your camera can do it).. and that is a slow sync shot with motion. Unless you've done that recently..just let me know! Oh..and it's not in my profile, but I homeschool also.

@m9f9l My camera can do that? I tried to do that one other time, but I couldn't figure out how to make my camera do that! I would love to do that, if I can figure out how.

I love the Nubble light house... Thanks for the Christmas shot fellow Mainer!
December 8th, 2013
@lafish Oh, I wish I was in Maine. I'm in NH, right on the MA border. I think I like Maine the best!
December 8th, 2013
That looks really cool

@rachelwithey Thanks!
@m9f9l Thanks! I'll try to get it to work. I'm getting a new camera for Christmas, but it's still not a DSLR. But, I'm hoping it is capable of being taken off auto. Sometimes I miss my old Pentax K-1000 with lenses and real film! LOL!
December 8th, 2013
Have you considered getting a used dslr? That's what I do :-)
December 8th, 2013
@m9f9l I did, but my daughter complained that they would have to wait on me even more if I had to change lenses. LOL!
December 8th, 2013
Wonderful capture and I love that you included the day photo.
December 8th, 2013
@m9f9l Oh, my goodness! LOL! I have had this camera for 5 years and have never used the auto mode, didn't know that you could make adjustments in the menu through it. I've been all through the regular menu trying to do a longer exposure. It's still not an unlimited exposure time, but it's better than before. Darn. Wish I would have know this last night. I might have gotten better pictures of the stars. Boo me! I should have read the manual 5 years ago! LOL! Note to self, when I get my new camera: read the entire manual over Christmas!
December 8th, 2013
Yeah, reading the manual can be a good thing :-)
December 8th, 2013
It looks really pretty all lit up like that. My camera has a limited long exposure too.
December 9th, 2013
@olivetreeann I didn't think my camera could do a long exposure at all, but apparently it can! LOL! You learn something new everyday!
December 9th, 2013
Wonderful night capture. Lovely silhouettes of Lights.
December 9th, 2013
@anazad511 Thanks!
December 9th, 2013
This is cool. We got to go on a 30th anniversary trip in 2011 and I got to take photos of this lighthouse along with others.
December 10th, 2013
@morrisphotos Fun! I've only gotten to see 2 so far. I need to go find some more. This one is about an hour from our house, but we are only here for a year (which we are halfway through). I need to get busy! LOL!
December 10th, 2013
We started in Acadia National Park one day and drove down to Boston. We stopped at about 9 in one day. It was fun.
December 10th, 2013
@morrisphotos I would love that. I can only squeeze one in if we are passing nearby on our way to do something else. I can usually bribe my husband to drive the 90 minutes to Cabelas in Scarborough, ME, and drop by lighthouse on the way back. They are usually only 10-15 minutes off the interstate.
