When we returned to the U.S. after spending 4 years in Germany, we came home with a few souvenirs. This coin collection with 10DM bill was worth about $25 in 1994. We had wanted to keep a 20DM bill, because it had a picture of a staircase from Wuerzburg's Bishop's Residence, where we were last stationed. Now, they use the Euro, so I don't think this money is even in use any more.
It makes a great souvenir. I used to bring money home from my holidays, in Europe it´s of course the Euro that is now being used in many countries, including mine
Money from other countries is always so fascinating. I even have some square coins and ones with a hole in the middle. It would be nice if this bill became a collector's item some day!
@ceilidh@lynnilou@artbyclover@mittens Thanks! @susale That would have made travelling through Europe much easier! We often showed up at a border and exchanged 4 or 5 different currencies for the local money! LOL! @luvmynynix A square coin? I've never seen one of those. I have a couple with holes in them. They are very cool.
Ahh lovely!!! I miss out old notes so much, they were worth a lot more than what the Euro is now! I remember all those so well :) Thanks for the Memory shot :)
Foreign currency is fun to collect. I have an eclectic assortment of coins that were given to me as a gift in a grab bag. I'm not sure where they're all from but you can figure out a lot of them if you can understand the writing. Nice shot!
Very interesting composition. I collect paper currency from around the world and see the value of an old bill, even if it doesn't have any monetary value.
@homeschoolmom Interesting photo. I'm not the best housekeeper. When I was getting ready for our trip, I went through all the little piles of coins we have lying around various flat surfaces and various bowls. I expected to find the pounds and Euros, but that there are still a few Turkish coins floating around the house from my husband's trip two years ago was quite a surprise!
@gozoinklings How am I even going to get the dishes done if people keep pointing out interesting things? I said, yes, Catherine's right, I wonder who it is? I didn't see a name, but I thought I recognized the bell curve, so I Googled bell curve. The gentleman on the note is Gauss, the mathematician most credited with inventing the bell curve, and, I'm pretty sure, he has something to do with the "Gaussian blur" Photoshop Elements offers me in Post-Production. But if I stop to research THAT hunch, the dishes will NEVER get washed!
@digitalrn Maybe some day our kids will sell it to a collector and put their kids through college! LOL!
