What a crazy day! We drove 90 minutes to High Point, NC, for a tournament game. The other team drove up from Charlotte, about the same distance. But, when it came time to play the game, they had to forfeit because they didn't have their credential book with all the boys' IDs to prove who they were. But, we decided to play the game any way. Just for fun, right? Wrong! The other team wasn't interested in a good game of football. They were interested in getting under our boys' skin and provoking fights. As we were about to make our 4th touchdown (they never scored), they walked off the field and refused to play any more and again tried to start a fight. The league president called out several of our boys and commended them for their actions on the field. He also reminded them to forget about what the other team said and did. They were going home losers and we are playing for the state championship. Some happy boys, well, they were happy after they got over being angry with the other team.
Nice shot, nice story. Well, not exactly "nice" story, but important. It seems to frequent that we teach poor sportsmanship. Congrats to your guys for doing it right.
