I was totally surprised today to see a line of little magnolia trees with magnolia flowers on them the day after Hurricane Florence finally passed through. If you aren't familiar with magnolia flowers, they are quite large, but very delicate, and rarely last longer than 24 hours in the South's summer heat. Thirty feet away, a small tree was toppled. Florence was fairly good to our town, but not the towns below us. There is major flooding along the Cape Fear River and all it's tributaries, which was a problem for my husband who works 45 minutes south of where we live and has to cross either the river or a tributary on the way home. It took him 3 hours to get home because almost every route was closed due to flooding. He will not be able to get back to work tomorrow, because he barely got through as it was.
