This bird sat out in the open for more than 5 minutes today, in spite of the bitter cold. I think I got pictures of him from all angles. He was a great model to photograph!
@mej2011 Male house sparrow! I figured he was a sparrow. There are at least 3 different types of sparrows that hang out behind my house that I have photographed. @luvmynynix The late afternoon sun was shining right on him. He was probably out in the sun trying to warm up. @digitalrn Thanks! I was surprised to see them as cold as it was today.
@mittens Thanks! @mej2011 Yes, they can. I can usually tell major species, like cardinals, bluejays, robins, hawks....but when it comes to specific types, I'm lost.

It's taken me a while to figure them out as well. But, www.whatbird.com has done a lot as far as helping me learn about birds in my area.

The Sparrows can get very confusing. I've got a bunch in my yard as well.
