We always joke that Hunter's Eagle project mentor knows everyone in Sanford and Lee County, having spent all of his 71 years in the local area. We were talking about how I had to hand paint with an artists brush all of the hand lettering on the old historic sign that was damaged during the hurricane last fall. And, Mr. Dark started telling me about the guy he grew up with who did most of the hand lettering, a guy named Cotcamp. I showed him this decoration on the sign. I thought it looked like initials - A C. And his eyes got big and he said, "Arthur Cotcamp, that was his name. He must have painted this sign, too." The artist passed away many years ago, according to Mr. Dark, but his legacy lives on.
