The military has a tradition called a "Hail and Farewell," which is basically a monthly dinner to welcome new people and say goodbye to those leaving. In 1992, my husband's tank battalion drew down, so we held one final Hail and Farewell to say goodbye to everyone. We won the door prize, a basket of wines. Since we didn't drink, we gave most of it away. We kept this bottle because it was made in the area of Germany where we were stationed.. The wine is still in it (probably vinegar by now). But, we melted a candle over it, which was a common thing to do at the time. Surprisingly, more than 23 years and 4 big moves later, the candle drips endure. For today's word, candle.
