016 - Stonegate, in the centre of York, and following the alignment of an earlier Roman road (the Via Praetoria) became famous in the 16th century for its book shops and printers. At 33 Stonegate there used to be a printers, and outside at the corner of the shop is a little Devil. This guy got the blame when metal type was miss spelt when going to Press. It is said to be unlucky to look into his eyes!
Thanks for following my page .... because I have so many Following friends it has just become to time consuming to follow every one that follows me so I work on a system ...if you view and comment on my most recent pic I view and comment on yours.H
Thank you - York seems to specialise in unusual ornaments / sculptures on buildings, if only you know where to look. There are godesses, stone throwing soldiers, and cats on walls and roofs. I'll try and record a few more as my project progresses
If that story is true, I'm in serious trouble, with the number of times I've seen him and looked at the eyes! At one time I lived in the shadow of the Minster, and would walk past this little devil almost every day.
Great capture :p

Sorry about that - perhaps you should read this reply with your eyes shut! lol
Thank you Bruni - He looks like a friendly chap doesn't he? York is quite a maze of narrow streets and alleys, and fascinating to explore.
