075 - This was the impressive south-west entrance to the medieval city of York, but the scene has changed considerably since then. The barbican, which was an additional defence projecting from the front of the Bar, has beed demolished, and the Bar is hemmed in by later brick buildings
The road approaching the Bar, Blossom Street, is always busy with traffic. The only time I can remember there being no traffic here was when the Pope visited York in 1982, and the road was closed so that many of the 200,000 pilgrims could walk along it from the railway station towards the Knavesmire racecourse, where the Pope held mass.
Yesterdays photograph was taken from the wall at the left side of Micklegate Bar
@if1 I really like the pictures in the link you gave of a daily picture of York, there was even one of the walls with daffodils, one of my favourite memories of York, thanks.
Thank you Bruni. It's virtually impossible to get a shot here without a lot of traffic, but at least the car under the Bar gives an impression of the scale of the building.

Thank you - Any special requests for locations?
Thank you, I'm trying to reflect the city, but without it being too much of a tourist trail
If you want more of a look at life in York, I can recommend the following sites:

Both give some fascinating insights into life here.
I'll have a look at Cliffords Tower when I get chance - I've got a couple of ideas, but to do it justice it really needs a sunny day!
Glad you like them. I enjoy some of the thoughts on the other site, and to see what has changed in York since her 4 seasons photos in 2004.
Thank you Bruni. It's virtually impossible to get a shot here without a lot of traffic, but at least the car under the Bar gives an impression of the scale of the building.
