136 - Summer is here, and the regular steam train service between West Yorkshire, York and Scarborough has now began to run three days a week.
Here in the first week the locomotive is 'Scots Guardsman', and this is the evening return service entering York railway station.
The locomotive was built in 1927 by the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow for the LMS railway company. It is now preserved by the West Coast Railway company.
It was used in the 1936 film Night Mail, and recently featured on local TV when it carried the Olympic flame from York to Thirsk.
Great train shot. I enjoy the old steamers. Several still steam in Colorado during the summer. European steam trains are much more colorful than in the USA.
Thank you Sarah - the locomotives for future weeks haven't yet been announced, so I don't know if Scots Guardsman will be going to Scarborough again, but it does seem to be used on a lot of tours in northern England at the moment.
Thank you Bob, you're right, they're in a wide variety of colours here. No doubt I will be featuring a few more of them in my project during the summer!

Thank you Hanson - no doubt I will be spending quite a bit of time photographing the various steam locomotives on their way to the coast this summer!
Thank you Brian - I'll be seeing a lot more of these during the summer!
Thank you Roslyn - I love them too, so the camera will be working hard on them this summer!
Thank you Frida - this is how I remember them when I was a lad, except they were rather dirtier then!

Thank you Jane, and you are right about the care they get now - this is amazingly clean!
Thank you petaqui.
Thank you Marie - there are quite a few steam runs this summer, so there may be more steam train shots to come.
Thank you Louise - this is the first of a number that I will be chasing this summer!
