Scarborough Spa Express by if1

Scarborough Spa Express

136 - Summer is here, and the regular steam train service between West Yorkshire, York and Scarborough has now began to run three days a week.

Here in the first week the locomotive is 'Scots Guardsman', and this is the evening return service entering York railway station.

The locomotive was built in 1927 by the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow for the LMS railway company. It is now preserved by the West Coast Railway company.

It was used in the 1936 film Night Mail, and recently featured on local TV when it carried the Olympic flame from York to Thirsk.
How lovely! The Night Mail is one of Allan's old favourites. Nice to know you can travel in it - must have a go before too long!

Great train shot. I enjoy the old steamers. Several still steam in Colorado during the summer. European steam trains are much more colorful than in the USA.

@sarah19

Thank you Sarah - the locomotives for future weeks haven't yet been announced, so I don't know if Scots Guardsman will be going to Scarborough again, but it does seem to be used on a lot of tours in northern England at the moment.
