283 - Another shot from yesterday's walk through Regents Park, London.
I've always thought of the Grey Heron as a fairly solitary bird, but there were over a dozen of these attractive birds along the bank of the southern part of the lake.
They remain so still that they look almost like statues. The ones in Regents Park are well used to the presence of people, and it's possible to get quite close to them.
very very beautiful Ian. I really love the lighting. I get frustrated with my photos, I don't seem to be able to get the perfect focus like many of the 365'ers. Sometime tripod and then other times not.
Thank you Dar - it was quite a bright day, and these birds tend to stand still for ages, which helps with this kind of shot. The camera was hand held, and I used autofocus (my camera doesn't have manual focus), and throw in a bit of luck and it seems to have worked ok!
My gosh, what a beautiful bird - his coloring is slightly different from our herons. This is a beautiful shot. Wonderful detail - even his scrawny legs are interesting.
Thank you Milanie - I was fortunate to be able to get quite close to this grey heron. It was in Regent's Park, London, and there were quite a lot of them, and they were obviously used to people close to them

Thank you Lucy - there are lots of these near the south-western entrance to Regents Park, and you should be able to get a good shot with your camera.
Thank you Lydia, glad you like it!
Thank you Bob, I'm sure you are right, but usually when they are near water they usually seem to be alone.
Thank you Therese - these birds stand quite still for ages, either in or close to still water. The problem is spotting them because they don't move!
Thank you Pyrrhula - he was quite cooperative with his pose and letting me get fairly close!
Thank you Kd - Grey Heron spend ages stood very still either in or beside shallow water, so that helps when trying to get a shot!
Thank you Judith - he was very cooperative!
Thank you Vesna, glad you like it!
Thank you Bruni - I agree, they are attractive birds.
Thank you Ladyjane, he posed beautifully!
Thank you Mickey, glad you like it.
Thank you Ruth - I was about 12-13 yards from him. He was much more tame than ones I've tried to get shots of in Yorkshire.
Thank you Brian - he posed beautifully.
Thank you Roslyn, glad you like it!
Thank you Caren, and thank you for the fav! He really posed beautifully!
Thank you Malin - he was a great poser!
Thank you Cecilia, I was pleased with the result.
