have to take a large group photo at church next week so I practiced shooting from the balcony today...

Wow. I have never photographed a group that big, although I have done group shots for years. I officially have no advice for you. Good luck!

( where I used to work we'd take 3 to 4 shots on huge groups and pan them together sometimes.. but I never did that)

@melston I think it will work with one shot...I got my settings down today and we are doing a practice run on arrangement of the students two days before the actual shot...hopefully it goes well!

It will, you're high enough, just get everyone to look up, and not bunch together too much.
