my get pushed challenge issued by Kathy @myhrhelper was 1) tilt shift
OR
2) something you value
OR
a creative photo using a typical office related item such as a pen, pencil, note pad, paper clip, stapler, scissor, etc.
I combined two of them, the office related items and tilt-shift (freelensing in my case because I don't have a tilt-shift lens). freelensing isn't easy at all and this probably is not a stellar example but I was fairly happy with the minion guarding his new school supplies ; )
Jackie I like this but I'm going to be mean to you and ask for another entry only because your camera has a feature that you didn't didn't know about.
You have the ability to do a tilt shift effect right within your Nikon D7100.
Here is what you do -
1)Take a photo that would be ideal for a tilt shift image such as a landscape with buildings, or cars etc.
2) View the image while still in your camera.
3) Go to your menu option
4) Find your retouch menu
5) Find miniature effect.
6) slide the section of the photo you want to appear miniature
7) select ok
And there you have it. :)
Also your camera is also capable of doing fish eye, HDR and much more!
@myhrhelper thanks Kathy. I did know that about the camera. I also have the effect on elements but thought I would give this technique a try since I had never done it before hence the "get pushed" part! I will do as you ask and look for a suitable scene to try and fulfill the request. thanks!
@jackies365 There is no pressure and you don't have to do it - I just thought you might be glad to know your camera has that feature. I am pretty certain that you can do a multiple exposure with your camera as well.
I do like this shot and it is a creative touch with the character included.
@myhrhelper I have used the multiple exposure feature in a previous challenge and a bit since that challenge. I am in need of more ideas for my photos so the extra challenge is welcome! thanks again. I notice that you like to help with teaching on the site and that is wonderful. I always read your posts. I have been following the group shot photos because I have a wedding coming up and I am so nervous about clear shots and a nice experience and great wedding album at the end. It's turning out to be a much bigger thing than expected and I am shooting alone so I am scared out of my wits but will pray for a good outcome!
Thank you, and thank you for my challenge as well.
I've done several weddings (but I don't consider myself a wedding photographer). Couple important tips from what I know.
1) lighting - so important - make sure you have good lighting equipment - very helpful.
2) shoot in raw files
3) take lots of shots - unless you are able to view large size
4) get an assistant - even if it is a teenager that your train - this person can help carry equipment, tear down/set up, hold reflectors, etc. etc.
Perhaps even a relative.
5) back up batteries, flashes, memory cards, etc. etc.
6) USE a tripod and monopod - the image quality will be much clearer and crisper.
When is the wedding? I will pray for you.
I have a wedding in October - it is a destination wedding and I will be alone - it will be in Florida during sunset so the lighting may be an issue.
Since I am flying I can't bring my normal heavy duty tripod but will bring my husbands smaller one.
the HUGE mistake I made is I didn't use a tripod for that group photo so the image isn't as crisp and clear. Although it isn't a wedding everyone came from out of state for the photo shoot and I really messed up by not having more lighting and not using a tripod. My husband usually works with me on these and wasn't available.
@myhrhelper I am compiling lists of what I need. I will take lots of photos for sure. I appreciate all prayers. my daughter will be there but not the whole time. I have been trying to think of someone who would be willing to come but haven't come up with anyone yet. I think I can enlist some of the grooms extended family if needed. the date is August 8. I in turn will pray for your event. sunset sounds like a dream but also has it's challenges for sure. I am looking into a new tripod. mine are all relatively inexpensive ones (I have 3 lol) It always seems like I spend way more on these shoots than I come out with but in the end I have new equipment! I have even taken out my d3100 to take as a back up and have been practicing because the controls are so different on the d7100. It actually came back pretty easily. It's still a good little camera!
@lisamccloskey yes unfortunately they have school supply aisles up already. I am far beyond school supply shopping however! I do sometimes buy my daughter stuff for her patients just because I love to see kids get art stuff and it is great therapy for them. she is an OT. thanks for the comment!
