dog sitting for the granddogs this weekend. of course they become the subject of the camera. harrison who is 95 pounds of slow motion (except when it comes to food) is not a fan of the camera. when I laid on the floor to shoot him and his little girlfriend molly, he kept one eye on me at all times! their story is so sweet. she was a backyard breeded that my daughter rescued amidst dead dogs in a freezing cold detroit basement of an abandoned home...her mate died in my daughter's arms on the way to the emergency vet...her last rescue, she couldn't take it. she has fostered molly for a year hoping for a forever home but she isn't a beautiful dog in the typical sense. she isn't young either. harrison was living with a man who asked for assistance with food for the animals and surrendered them when the rescue arrived. his son looks just like him. my daughter fostered him and failed and ended up adopting him. now she is adopting molly too. harrison and molly have fallen in love...it's a very quiet relationship. she is less than half his size so it's quite cute. she literally lays on top of him at times and I don't think he even feels her! unfortunately, molly has heartworm. after being tested initially the diagnosis was negative...her recent checkup showed otherwise. she was probably in the very early stages when the first test was done when she was brought into the rescue. so now, with her advanced age, she has had testing for the strength of her organs to see if she can withstand treatment. she has been on antibiotics for almost 30 days and will be on steroids for several days before her first treatment next week. she was on preventative so no new heartworms could survive but the adult ones did. so good with the bad. she seems quite healthy if you look at her and see the improvements she has made through the year. so our prayers are for her heading into next week and for the months beyond with her subsequent treatments. the nice thing is that she has harrison to do a lot of laying around with during her treatment as she has to stay quiet and let the horrible poison do it's job. her shirt...it says...I see ya wormies, I'm stronger than you! molly my daughter is the eternal optimist.
Ahhhhh, what a happy story but also heartbreaking! Such lovely animals - hope the news is good in the future months and they have a long and healthy life together.
