Thank you so much for your comments about my photo of our grandson saluting his grandfather at the military cemetery last month that I posted for Veterans Day. When he arrived at the cemetery, he was running around some headstones, and his father (Ricky) told him we needed to be respectful. I told him that to respect his grandfather, when the time was right, he could salute. It's true I was setting up a photograph, not for 365, but for the family as Charlie and I were photographing all day. He knew how to salute because his grandfather had taught him how to. Two hours later, when the ashes were being put into the crypt, I told him now was the time. Here is where the story changes, and you can see it on his face. He was extremely close to his grandfather, who was a disabled veteran who sat most of the time. He always had time for his grandson, and they sat and talked, played, read, and watched television for many years. His salute was genuine, authentic from the heart. He wanted to show respect, but his heart was breaking, and he is so young. This is one reason why Charlie commented on this photo by asking for prayers for this grieving family.
