The Very Large Array (VLA) is a radio astronomy observatory about a two-hour drive from our home. It consists of 27 giant radiotelescopic dishes. Altogether they are 2.5 miles in diameter. A single one weighs 230 tons. I think they are even more remarkable with the layer in the foreground--don't miss it!
For a smile, Charlie has a companion photo today here: https://365project.org/bigdad/365/2017-12-19
Thank you so much for commenting on my photo of the Very Large Array. Because you might not know our landscape, I feel a need to tell you that to find a wild herd of antelope grazing right in front of the array was very, very unusual.
