“Cartoonish signboards of Native Americans still stare out from the front of an out-of-service dining car — stage props of sorts, from a time long past. But the tableaus of badlands and desert, the lonesome stretches of railroad, are still there.”

Thanks so much for commenting on my photo of the Native American cutout at the dormant train station in Lamy, NM. When I sought information about it, I read that the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC, currently has a display of Native Americans in advertisements throughout history. I think the one in my photo was common for train stations in the West so that travelers would get a sense of being in the stereotypical West.
