rose cottage by jantan

rose cottage

drove past this cottage today. Almost didn't pluck up courage to stop and take a photo of it. Actually it had the most beautiful garden full of spring flowers but I bottled out of standing right by the gate to get them in the frame. Wimp aren't I?
This is doll like and enchanting! Thanks for taking its photo!

Looks so quintessentially old English. An amazing find - hard to believe someone lives there.

@fueast haha funny you should say that Alison, I almost called it 'quintessential Englishness" (but I couldn't spell it....)

@jantan I use the iphone for tricky comments - it corrects your spelling :-)

Can I point out that I didn't see Alison's comment...I wasn't copying the quintessential thing; I thought I'd been really original!

Yes it's postcardish isn't it! I love the bicycle out the front. Good on you for having the courage to stop and take it. I know what you mean, I often wonder if someone's looking through the windows and wondering if I'm casing the place!

I'm sure I used to draw a house like this. Love it. :)

What a cute little cottage! I would've thought something like this only exists in fairytales! I'm glad you took a shot and I got to see this. Wonderful!

@northy @myautofocuslife The roof is thatched with reeds. It is quite common in the rural ares of the UK, although in some places straw is used. There is a tiny thatched church near here, I must get a photo of it some time though it always seems to be in the shade when I look. This cottage is in a nearby village but in the village where I live there are lots of houses with roofs like this.

That's an amazing place - you couldn't make up a more idyllic looking place - and I would have probably leapt over the gate to get a better view. Nice view in any case - love the little offshoot on the right with the wonky window.
