Walked into the stable where the swallows are nesting today to be greeted by a lot of screeching and this sight, so took some photos of them this evening. I am amazed how brightly coloured the insides of their beaks are - I haven't enhanced the colour here at all.

@orangecrush let's just say Jerry, it involved a step-ladder and three glasses of wine to overcome my extreme fear of heights. Oh yes, and they were very accommodating because for some reason every time the light that helps the camera focus came on they stuck their heads in the air and opened their beaks!
We had lots of experience with swallows and eventually tried to stop them nesting due to the mess that was left! Even tried to bring up some orphans but the eventually all died about 12 weeks as they couldn't groom themselves!
Must admit @maggiemae they do make a terrible mess. There is a big chest freezer under the place where they nest and I have had to cover it with newspaper.
