to get to the bit of our land where we keep the pigs we have a right of way across the village allotments. I love seeing how the fruit and vegetables develop day by day. Yesterday morning I was looking at these cabbages and thinking how perfect they looked. This morning this one looked more like lace and was covered in caterpillars. Poor Adrian, the allotment holder is going to have a real shock next time he goes up there.
my god, what a day it's been.....
In a nutshell, I left our dog at the vet's this morning to undergo exploratory surgery. The vet was expecting to find that she had a tumour, probably on her spleen and that this had been bleeding which was what was causing her red blood cell count to fall dangerously low. He thought that there was a very great chance that the tumour was cancerous and that this would have spread and would be inoperable. If this was the case I had given him permission to not bring her round from the anaesthetic.
I thought that I was just taking her there for another blood test so you can imagine how hard it was to leave her behind thinking that there was a very good chance that I wouldn't see her again.
Five extremely long hours later the vet called to say that no tumours had been found but bizzarely she had a two inch gash in her spleen which had obviously been there for quite some time but this was possible where she had been bleeding from which would explain why her red blood cell count was so low and was fluctuating so much. This was such good news. We have no idea how the gash occured.
So, she is still at the vet's and is by no means out of the woods but things are looking more positive than they were .......... fingers crossed!!!!!
Oh - best wishes for a speedy recovery for the dog! I had my cabbages eaten by caterpillars this year as I was too busy to spray them! Great light in this shot as well.
Hope she makes a good recovery. Maybe a blunt trauma- that can cause spleen injuries. Anyway, I'm glad it's something that can hopefully be treated and now that it's been discovered she can start to heal.
